FAQ

Q. How is the DCFMC different from other music organizations?

A. The DCFMC is an all inclusive music organization whose primary goal is to advance American music through its educational and performing opportunities. For professional musicians, it provides a venue for creative projects: i.e., composer forums and performing opportunities. For students, the DCFMC provides recitals, festivals, and competitions at all levels. For teachers, the DCFMC provides opportunities to showcase their students, and educational events such as master classes.

Q. How can I benefit from becoming a member?

A. By becoming a member of the DCFMC you can be a part of a committed community of musicians who are dedicated to keeping music thriving in Washington, DC. In addition, by being involved, you can help advance your own musical projects, and meet people who feel strongly about the Arts.

A. The DCFMC offers programs for collaboration. This year we had a forum for DCFMC composers, teachers and students, in which the teachers helped students learn music written by our own composers. A workshop was presented in which the pieces were performed and discussed. Future collaborative events include vocal students teaming up with pianists to explore the vocal repertory, and instrumental students working with piano students to learn chamber music.
