Junior Recitals

The Junior Recital series gives young students, ages 6 to 18, opportunities to perform on a concert grand piano and in a setting more formal than their teachers' homes. All junior recitals are held at 2:00 pm at the National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Avenue NW, Washington, DC.

Entrants for all Junior Recitals must be students of teachers who are members of the DCFMC and must have studied for at least one year.

To be eligible for the Eleven-and-Under unjudged recital, students should not have reached their 12th birthday on the day of the recital. For judged recitals and the Marriott Competition, students must be 12 years old or older. For all recitals, students must not have reached their 19th birthday on the day of the recital.

Judged Recitals

Judged recitals are for students ages 12 to 18. The students perform one or more pieces for two judges, who provide a written critique of their performances. The judges pick as many as three performers in each judged recital to play in the Honors Recital held each spring.

Unjudged Recitals

There are three unjudged recitals each year: the Eleven-and-Under recital, the Jazz and Blues Festival, and the Baroque Festival. To be eligible for the Eleven-and-Under recital, students should not have reached their 12th birthday on the day of the recital. The festivals are open to all students under the age of 19.
